Double A for Alarcon:  Actor, Advocate
Jestoni Alarcon is wearing a new hat.  The
actor-politician is now an environmental
advocate.

Alarcon, Anthony Jesus Alarcon in real life,
started in showbiz.  After a string of box office
successes, he grabbed opportunities to do
more mature roles.  A few years after getting
married, he took on an entirely new career:
politics.  His initial foray was in 2001 when he
ran and won as councilor in Antipolo City.
Three years later, he sought the
vice-gubernatorial post in Rizal province, and
again won.
However,  he was not as lucky in 2007, when he ran for congressman of the second district
of Rizal.  His electoral defeat did not stop him from serving the public.  He put into good use his
ability to organize dynamic campaigns and mobilize people by being one of the members of the
Board of Trustees of Tao at Kalikasan Development, Center, Inc. (TKDCI) whose advocacy
include conservation, rehabilitation and preservation of the environment and natural
resources.

Alarcon is aware that civic organizations play an improtant role in stirring public awareness on
the need to protect the environment.

"I'm very happy and satisfied about TKDCI's environmental advocacy and awareness program
which is being launched through Awit at Sigaw ng Kalikasan (Battle of the Bands).  There will
be more activities to be launched in 2008, so I'm encouraging everyone seeking to work for
public interest as well as environmental advocates to check the TKDCI's advocacy and
awareness program through its website www.taoatkalikasan.com," Alarcon said.

       He admits that embracing environmental
advocacy can be dangerous and sometimes
life threatening, but also rewarding, especially
since there are only few institutions that help
inspire, train and nurture programs and
projects that aim to preserve and rehabilitate
the environment.
